Hannon on the Issues
A strong economy, good education
and quality health care are crucial issues to New Yorkers. I have continually fought for job creation, economic
development, funding for Long Island’s schools and institutions,
and quality health care. Record increases to
education have
been achieved for the school districts in the 6th
Senate District, especially in 2008.
I 've backed, and implemented, changes in health care, budget
reform,
education,
and building jobs for economic growth-
which others
only talk about. Job creation:
My record in the Senate shows my commitment to job creation
and economic development. Long
Island must be competitive in biotechnology and other technological
economic markets to attract high-paying jobs. I have advanced a comprehensive economic development plan to
ensure our economic future, while keeping taxes down. My
record on JOB CREATION…
Lower
taxes:
Over the last five years, we've cut taxes more than any
other state - 36 times for a projected savings of $52 billion.
Lower taxes mean more businesses – and more jobs – for
Long Island and for New Yorkers. My record on TAXES…
Education:
Our
children’s future depends on the quality of their education. While Long Island has among the best schools in the nation,
we must keep up with technological advances and national test trends
to ensure that our children have every opportunity. And as a parent, I know firsthand how important our schools
are in the daily lives of our children. I’ll fight to make sure they have the resources they need.

Health
care:
We shouldn’t have to choose
between health care and other necessities when we’re doing our
monthly budget. I’ve played a central role in the
creation of Child Health Plus, EPIC (prescription drugs for
seniors), Family Health Plus and Healthy NY. I wrote the law that allows patients access to information
about their doctors’ disciplinary records. And as the federal government has wasted years on debating if
patients should have rights with their HMOs, I led the fight to
create New York’s “Patient’s Bill of Rights”. More on my record on HEALTH CARE…
Our
Community:
I have been privileged to represent the Sixth Senate
District, which encompasses Central Nassau County, for more than a
decade, and have met countless people who volunteer their time
working with our kids, with seniors, and with our underprivileged. I have advocated on their behalf and have been able to secure
funding that helps many vital and active community and health
organizations to function. More on my record on our COMMUNITIES… |
